What You Need to Know About The GA4 Migration

We’re less than six weeks from Google’s transition to GA4.

On July 1, 2023, Google will sunset the current version of Google Analytics (called Universal Analytics) that you’re using today and will replace it with an entirely new platform called GA4.

While you’ll still be able to view Universal Analytics reports for a period of time after July 1, 2023, new data will only flow into Google Analytics 4 properties.

The sooner you migrate, the more data you will have at your disposal.

We strongly recommend a migration to GA4 for the following reasons:

  • Improved User Engagement Analysis: Enhanced measurement events such as site search, file downloads, scroll, and video engagement let us know exactly how users interact with your site and content.
  • Better Customer Journey Tracking: The new data-driven attribution and user-focused model allows us to have a complete view of engagement across platforms leading to better aggregation and understanding. The new Life Cycle section reports on Acquisition, Engagement, Monetization, and Retention, making it easier to direct attention where needed.
  • Better Segmentation: GA4 lets us create powerful audiences by allowing us to segment audiences based on events. This lets us focus more on users and their interaction as compared to splitting them by device or platform.
  • Predictive Metrics: GA4 introduced Purchase Probability, Churn Probability, and Revenue Prediction. We can use these metrics to create highly targeted campaigns to improve conversions.
  • Better ROI: A benefit of better data is that we can refine and target relevant audiences to improve acquisition costs.

To get the most out of GA4, we encourage you to consider connecting your data to BigQuery, a cloud-based data warehouse that can store and analyze large amounts of data. Doing so allows you to preserve your data longer, run complex queries, and gain deeper analytical insights.

With the sunset date for Universal Analytics fast approaching, it’s important that you act now to make the transition to GA4 and take advantage of these powerful tools. Not doing so, could result in missing analytics data from your website or app.
